JSHAO Housing Briefs

The MoD provides civilian housing information to members of the Armed Forces via the Joint Service Housing Advice Office (JSHAO). JSHAO is the MOD’s tri-service focal point providing Service personnel and their family members with pertinent information for those considering civilian accommodation at any time in their career, and for those during resettlement to assist with the transition to civilian life. The bulk of this information is via a 2-2½ hr presentation with 1-1 consults available.

An Independent Financial Mortgage Adviser who is a member of SIIAP (Services Insurance and Investment Advisory Panel) which is recognised by the MOD as supporting the Armed Forces (refer 2013DIN01-218), accompanies JSHAO at the briefings.

Each JSHAO briefing is notified on all HIVE blogs regardless of location to ensure maximum coverage to the Service community.

MOD Services Cotswold Centre - Short Term Accommodation

The Services Cotswold Centre (SCC) is a tri-service facility managed by Headquarters Army Welfare Service (AWS) and funded by Headquarters Support Commands (HQ Sp Comd) on behalf of the MOD. It provides short term transit accommodation for service personnel, their spouses, civil partners and families.

The SCC accommodation comprises of 60 self contained chalet style homes and is located near Corsham, Wiltshire in the United Kingdom.

Mental Health Awareness Week - 14-20 May 2018

The Forces Network is broadcasting a week-long series of reports and interviews looking at mental health issues in forces communities.

Forces TV will show clips online taken from a recent interview with Prince Harry. He describes how his experiences in Afghanistan were the trigger to deal with his own mental health problems:
 “Not to get too personal but if you lose your mum at the age of 12 then you’ve got to deal with it.
 “…15, 17 years later, I still hadn’t dealt with it. Afghan was the moment ...”
Forces Radio BFBS is taking part in the Mental Health Minute, a nationwide initiative involving hundreds of radio stations across the UK simultaneously playing a one-minute message. The audio features famous voices talking about mental health and will be broadcast at 10.59am on Tuesday 15th May.

Do you think your soldier has a good work/life balance? 

How does that affect your Army family?

In AFF's latest survey, they want to discover more about the barriers that families face when trying to balance their family life with their soldier's workload, and what they feel could be done to improve things.

The short survey is live from 4-31 May and is designed to help us gather evidence of families’ biggest challenges including:

  • Difficulties with taking annual leave
  • Too many compulsory social functions
  • Too much time away from the family
  • Not being able to switch off from work when at home
  • Increased or unmanageable workload

Families’ feedback will be used to inform AFF’s work and help us build a case for approaching decision makers to push for positive changes.

Poppy Pod Holidays For Armed Forces - Membership Closed for 2018

Due to once again an unprecedented demand of the Poppy Pods for military families, membership is now closed for 2018. As a result of the overwhelming up take for this year the Centre has reluctantly decided to suspend membership of the Poppy Pods until January 2019.

This decision has been made in order that we do not disappoint any members by the lack of availability.

Carillionamey: Service Families Accommodation - Patch Management

Improving the way we manage your patch
Each Accommodation Officer (AO) is responsible for making regular checks on the Service Family homes and the surrounding communal areas for which they are responsible. 
They conduct regular inspections looking out for things such as graffiti, fallen trees, and potholes in roads. During their walk-around they also take a look at the exterior of properties, and may often notice things that families miss, such as a leaking drainpipe or blocked guttering and should alert the occupants so that a job can be raised.
Nowadays with so many families where both partners work, sometimes issues are identified when no one is home, and although the AO will raise the job with the Helpdesk, families may only find out about it when an engineer arrives to complete the job. We recognise that may be a concern for some families so CarillionAmey’s new patch management inspection card aims to solve this problem. Once the AO has identified an issue with the exterior of a property, the details will be completed on the card and posted through the letterbox, helping to prevent small repairs becoming bigger ones.
